This home had an interesting entry with domed niches that had an uninteresting rough painted plaster finish. The homeowners wanted to kick it up with an appropriated finish that did not look contrived. This was the solution. I used a mixture of synthetic textures and glazes to make faux stones with enough millage to cast shadows.

Since the domed niches were not symmetrical, I used a laser to lay out the mortar joints.  Then hand-glazed each tile to add interest and dimension.
